I don't understand.

I don't get it.

With me, being a dancer, I don't see how I can get through even one single day without dancing. Perhaps, I'm still the only one here who obsesses over it. Who dances as though its his last breath. His last shoulder shimmy. His last hip sway.

I just don't.

And perhaps to show you the extent of my madness, here's a few examples of how I get a bit of dancing into my day.

1. I can walk down the hallway, imagining the way that I'd dance and work it into my normal average, run-of-the-mill walking. I'm not walking anymore. I'm dancing. In my head, anyway.

2. I can dance sitting in my seat. Hip movements aren't hard in a chair and the fixed pelvis position leads to greater upper body isolations.

3. Bachata hips on a bike. NOT a good idea but great for if you commute by pedalling everywhere. Just make sure you don't do it while waiting for lights to turn green.

4. 1-2 minutes practice in the mirror. Daily. Maybe 2 to 3 times a day. Depending on how vain I feel and how awkward my shoulders feel. Use this to correct technique, check spinal and torso flexibility and count emerging abs from dancing +D

5. Good dance music on the iPod/mp3 player of your choice. In that way, you are NEVER without a reason NOT to dance.

6. Isolations. Turn your spine, shoulders, and hips into a whip and no one will ever say that your dancing is stiff.

7. Teach dance lessons. That way, you'll always critique your own dancing. And a dancer is his own worst enemy. Trust me. After watching videos of your performance on stage, you'd think twice about redoing that move again.

8. Get a good dance partner. No, get a GREAT dance partner. Preferably someone you're also romantically related to, if possible. Nothing hotter than watching your significant other turn up the heat on the carpet. Or wherever, really. What can beat that in terms of motivation to dance?

9. Take time to feel. No, hands off. Not like that. Take time to feel her hips sway, her shoulders glide, her ribcage sink beneath your hand and your forearm. Feel her shoulderblade shift under your fingers. Close your eyes. And feel. Pretend you're blind. How would you dance?

10. Dance. At every opportunity you get, get on the dance floor or in your living room or in your bedroom and dance. Move. You'll get there.

There.

I've got a few more people to see and then I'm done for the day.

Tootles.
